This page contains Tartan Trails' Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy. Please read the relevant section before purchasing a guide or personalized itinerary, or if you have questions about how your information is used.

Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before purchasing from Tartan Trails. By purchasing a digital guide or a personalized itinerary, you agree to the terms below. This section is split into three parts: terms that apply to everything, terms specific to Digital Guides, and terms specific to Personalized Itineraries.

Part 1: General Terms (applies to all purchases)

1. Who We Are

Tartan Trails is a sole trader business based in Scotland, UK, providing Scotland travel content and services, including downloadable guides and personalised itineraries.

2. Payment

Payment is taken in full at the time of purchase, through Squarespace's secure checkout.

3. Accuracy of Information

All content — whether in a guide or a personalised itinerary — is built using genuine local knowledge and information believed accurate at the time of writing. However, opening hours, prices, availability, and event dates are subject to change without notice. You are responsible for independently confirming details before and during your trip. Tartan Trails is not liable for any loss, cost, or inconvenience arising from changes to venues, businesses, or events recommended.

4. Personal Use Only

All content purchased from Tartan Trails — guides and personalised itineraries alike — is for your own personal use only. It may not be resold, redistributed, published, or shared commercially in any form without prior written permission from Tartan Trails.

5. Limitation of Liability

Tartan Trails provides recommendations and advice in good faith, based on genuine local knowledge, but is not responsible for:

  • Any bookings, purchases, or arrangements you make based on guide or itinerary content

  • Changes in weather, opening hours, availability, pricing, or events after purchase/delivery

  • Any loss, injury, expense, or disappointment arising from your use of the content

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tartan Trails' total liability in connection with any purchase is limited to the amount paid for that purchase.

6. Your Information and Privacy

By purchasing from Tartan Trails, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy section below.

7. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.

8. Contact

Questions about these terms or an order can be sent to [your email address].

Part 2: Digital Guides

1. The Product

Digital guides are downloadable PDF documents delivered instantly (or near-instantly) after purchase, either directly through this site or via linked third-party marketplaces (e.g., Etsy, Gumroad, Amazon KDP).

2. Delivery

Guides purchased directly through this site are delivered as an instant digital download upon successful payment. If purchased via a third-party marketplace, delivery follows that platform's own process.

3. Right to Cancel and Refunds

Because digital guides are delivered instantly as downloadable content, by completing your purchase you acknowledge that you are requesting immediate access to digital content and agree to waive your standard 14-day right to cancel once the download has been provided. Refunds are not available once a guide has been downloaded, except where the file is faulty, corrupted, or does not match its description - in which case, contact [your email address] for a replacement or refund.

4. Updates

Guide content reflects information accurate at the time of publication. Guides are not automatically updated after purchase, though occasional revisions may be made available at Tartan Trails' discretion.

Part 3: Personalised Itineraries

1. The Service

Tartan Trails provides personalised, custom-built Scotland travel itineraries ("the Service"), created based on the information you provide via the intake form at checkout. Itineraries are delivered as a digital PDF document to the email address you provide.

The Service is advisory in nature. Tartan Trails does not book flights, accommodation, transport, tours, or any other travel arrangements on your behalf. You are solely responsible for making and confirming your own bookings.

2. Delivery

  • Day Trip Itinerary: delivered within [5 business days] of purchase

  • Weekend Itinerary: delivered within [5 business days] of purchase

  • Full Trip Itinerary: delivered within [5 business days] of purchase

  • Extended Trip Itinerary: delivered within [7 business days] of purchase

  • Rush Delivery (add-on): delivered within 48 hours, subject to availability

Delivery timeframes are estimates and begin from the point a fully completed intake form and payment are received. Incomplete forms may delay delivery.

3. Right to Cancel and Refunds

Under normal UK consumer law, you would ordinarily have a 14-day right to cancel an online purchase. Because this Service involves bespoke work that begins promptly after purchase, by completing your purchase you expressly request that work begin immediately and agree to waive your standard 14-day cancellation right once work on your itinerary has commenced.

Refunds are not available once an itinerary has been delivered. If you wish to cancel before your itinerary has been started, contact [your email address] as soon as possible - refunds in this case are at Tartan Trails' discretion.

If Tartan Trails is unable to deliver your itinerary for any reason, a full refund will be provided.

4. Revisions

Each package includes one round of revisions, which must be requested within 7 days of delivery. Revision requests should be sent by reply to your delivery email, clearly outlining the changes requested. Revisions beyond this may be chargeable at Tartan Trails' discretion.

5. Multi-Week / Custom Quote Trips

Trips longer than 14 days, or requiring especially complex multi-region planning, are quoted individually. A custom quote does not constitute a binding order until payment has been made and confirmed by Tartan Trails.
